August Mud Speaker Lineup

The next humberMUD takes place on Thursday August 19 @ FRuIT Space, Hull's most exciting new venue. Entry is FREE and, yes, our new home does have a bar.

We have three great speakers, special guests, free snacks from Fudge and free tunes from DJ The Reverend.

We're proud to announce that James Greenwood, of leading web design, publishing and marketing agency Strawberry will explain how the Strawberry Academy will nurture local talent. Nigel Pugh from Forensic Footprints will be sharing his expertise in data recovery and secure data destruction. And, in this age of instant communication disasters, PR guru Nick Glaves (The Public Relations Company) will tell us how to handle a crisis. We'll also hear the latest on a new series of social media courses and what the city's Girl Geeks are up to.

"Clearly the people here are part of the digitally connected, engaged. How do you reach those who don`t have PCs and broadband?"

And with no irony the answer was "We go to schools."

When half the world's children would love to go to school, want nothing more than to learn.... have we created ghettos of the disefranchised? If you want to get in touch with the struggling, the economically non-viable, the digitally dumb - then apparently you go to a school.

Business Link Workshops

A series of the latest courses and presentations from Business Link. Online marketing and mangerial skills being focussed on in this season. I have attended these before and find them useful and a good place to network as well as accessing the latest info. Good... but pick your level... many MUDders will know a lot about some of these online subjects for instance.

A show not to be missed -  Dave Smith is exhibiting at Hull School of Art and Design at their Park Street centre over the next week.

The work covers 40 years from his foundation course to the present day and includes painting, drawing, printmaking, assemblage and three dimensional pieces) + sketchbooks.

There are short reviews from Edward Lucie Smith, William Feaver, Hilary Spurling and many other nationally known critics. The show is selected from a much larger body of work and is an interesting visual journey from an artist with a rare gift for looking intensely and sensitively at the world around him and communicating observations and thoughts through skilled manipulation of media.A bit of a treat!
